Forensic scientists are usually lab-based roles in areas such as Biology and Trace or Fingerprint Enhancement, depending on which department you join and what your interests or specialisms are.
Your everyday role can include a variety of different problem-solving tasks and scenarios, therefore being flexible and analytical is advantageous for a forensic examiner.
You will usually require at least one A-levels in science and demonstrate an excellent grasp of forensic science. For more senior roles such as a forensic scientist, you will require a degree (or equivalent) in a science subject.

A non-scientific position has become available to join our team as an Exhibit Handler/Administrator on a permanent contract. We have two Exhibit Handler/Administrator roles available. This is a multi-functional and physical role where you will be liaising with our wide range of customers; and be involved in receiving and returning a broad range of forensic samples including those from serious crime scenes and mass disasters. We deal with criminal cases submitted by police forces and are responsible for maintaining the validity of the evidence receipted. The Role
This is an entry level role and therefore would be suitable for individuals who haven’t previously worked in a scientific role.
The role holder will be responsible for examining items submitted as part of a ‘Scene of Crime’ case. These will be predominantly simple items such as blood swabs and items for cellular recovery. The role holder may also be involved in day-to-day laboratory maintenance and cleaning as well as scheduled servicing requirements.

The Role

The Role
We are looking to hear from candidates that have relevant industry experience with either latent or existing competencies in the reporting of DNA and Biology Casework.
The role holder is to be responsible for the creation and completion of the work associated with the DNA analysis / Body Fluid interpretation of laboratory Biology Casework submissions. Ultimately, to take ownership of a case and to be responsible to produce a report, SFR, Witness Statement or equivalent and attend Courts of Law as an expert witness as required. They will assist the Business Unit in routinely achieving success (in Quality, Output, Innovation and Development).
The role holder will be required to participate in any requirement for shift working and/or weekend rota cover (in lab or on call) as business needs dictate, either on the basis of hours which are additional to the standard week or by rostering. Where this is required, appropriate rota payments will be made.

Cellmark are looking to recruit experienced Forensic Reporting Scientist(s) who specialise in the field of Forensic Biology and/or Forensic Chemistry. You will be part of an expanding team in our Forensic Operations department. Positions are available at both our Abingdon and Chorley sites. As a Forensic Reporting Scientist (Biology), you must have extensive experience of reporting complex cases, including sexual offences, involving the examination of body fluid evidence and the interpretation of DNA results. Experience in reporting cases involving Blood Pattern Analysis (BPA) and experience of crime scene examination are desirable but not essential. As a Forensic Reporting Scientist (Chemistry), you must have extensive experience of reporting complex cases, involving one or more chemistry evidence types (e.g. footwear marks, toolmarks, glass, paint, corrosive substances, accelerants, etc).

You must have experience of liaising with customers such as the Police and CPS. In addition, you must have experience of presenting complex evidence in court and delivering reports in line with agreed turnaround times.
Previous experience of training/mentoring more junior staff would also be beneficial for this role, as there will be an expectation that you actively engage in the continuous scientific development of the team.
You will be educated to BSc. Degree in a relevant scientific subject.
